In my kitchen…..July 2014

I love ‘In my kitchen posts’, and have been wanting to be a part of it for a while now. Many of my blogger friends are part of the series started by Celia of Fig Jam and Lime Cordial, and when they talk about what’s in their kitchen, it makes me feel as if I am a part of their daily lives. So without much further ado, here it is!

In my kitchen…….
I have a garlic jar. One of my first finds in US many many years ago at a sale in an upscale trendy store.

In my kitchen….
A crabby dish. Ever been proud of an ugly item? My family loves crab and crab meat. So when I chanced upon this ugly piece of crab crockery, I knew I had to have it. So this purple plate of monsterity finds a place in my kitchen.

A beautiful addition to my kitchen pantry – a Harissa bottle, gift from a dear friend.

I have petite coffee cups that I adore. They are just the right size, as they don’t hold much so no over dosing on coffee, but are smooth to hold and the colors are pretty, and are paired with matching coasters. But the deal? I got them at a steal from Christmas tree shops.

In  my kitchen…..

I have a bottle of sweetened and dried dates with a hint of mint. These chewies are mouth freshners that are indigenous to the Indian subcontinent. Notice how it says 7.75 DHS? That’s 7.75 UAE Dirham – UAE currency, which means it is coming from UAE and is equivalent to about 2.11 US dollars, but almost 126 Rupees in India (in india this probably costs 15-20 Rupees). We buy it for 1.25 dollars. Which means we buy it cheaper than people in Dubai do.  The currency difference sometimes can boggle the mind.

Mouthfreshner - 7.75 Dirham, we pay 1.25: or 4.59 dirham

Also, how does an Indian product that is meant for UAE market with a stamped currency price end up in US store, that too with almost at a 40% marked down price? Notice the Arabic script?Never mind, we love it anyway and are just thankful we get them here.

It's from UAE, but says product of India...
