Orange Crush – the sun in a cup

By nature, I am not an early riser, neither is my husband. On the other hand, my Father in law can rise really early, especially if we have to go for sight seeing. Whenever we go out as a family, it’s a constant source of battle. Our idea of travel is lots of food, sleep, repeat. His idea of vacation is, of course, cramming in as many places of tourist attractions as possible. As the old saying goes, west is west, east is east….

Talking about east, it’s prudent to day my husband and I have seldom been able to bask in the glory of an early morning sunrise. Not even when it’s a rare sight, like in the majestic mountains of Kanchanjunga, a sight to behold. During those time, we always hunt for hotels that would give us the pleasure right from the fold of our cozy warm bed.

Last Christmas, our New York visit was an almost disaster. We dragged our feet getting out of our rooms, while my poor father in law was dressed to T waiting for us to move our you know what.

Well almost. Nothing that a beautiful drink of Orange Crush would not solve. I call it the sunset drink. Being nocturnal in nature has meant we have gazed into many beautiful sunsets. And this particular drink always reminds me of that.

It’s a pretty cool drink. Some vodka mixed with grenadine syrup does the magic. My dear Father in law loves a good cocktail. And I love making them for him. When he is not here with us, I miss those moments the most.

Orange Crush

Ingredients
  • 1½ ounces vodka
  • ½ ounce triple sec
  • 2 ounces orange juice
  • ½ ounce grenadine syrup
  • Crushed ice
  • Few mint springs or orange slice or a lemon slice
Instructions
  1. Scoop crushed ice into a goblet
  2. Mix vodka and triple sec and pour over the ice
  3. Add in the orange juice. Give it one stir.
  4. Top it with grenadine (measure it well, you don't want it too sweet)
  5. Drop a few mint leaves and give a pop with the sliced orange/lemon
